Albufeira Hotels see fall in visitor numbers (November 14, 2011)
Albuferira Hotels saw a 2.5% fall in visitor numbers in October 2011 compared to the same month in 2010. However, this compares favourable with other resorts in The Algarve, which saw an overall fall of nearly 8%. Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra were the resorts to suffer mosts, with falls of over 13%.
Overall, The Algarve has suffered a loss of nearly 10% in the ten months to October 2011 compared to 2010.
The Algarve region is heavily dependent on British tourists, who account for nearly one third of all visitors. Dutch and German visitors account for around 10% each.
The economic situation in the United Kingdom has clearly affected the numbers, but strangely 5 star Albufeira Hotels have seen an increase in occupancy.
